Gillard is guilty of a little backsliding herself
letters published in The Australian, 27 October 2010

While Julia Gillard should be congratulated for endorsing market-based reforms, it is important to identify what is market-based and what is not. Her government’s policy of putting a price on carbon as quickly as possible is not  market-based but involves government regulation that businesses would be required to apply. But increasing analysis suggests that the theory of dangerous warming has little or no substantive basis and that such regulation is not required even as a precaution.

Of course, over time temperatures and rainfall will  fluctuate as they have in the past. Free enterprise economies such as ours have demonstrated an increasing capacity to adapt to such changes and governments should leave them to do so in the future.
