While the letters in today’s The Australian are rather a hotch-potch, they reflect the widespread concern about the failure of the Abbott government to operate a coherent budget strategy since last year’s election. This is also reflected in the article below by Phillip Hudson which includes critical reactions from back-bench Coalition MPs.

My letter, the spirit of which is not reflected in the heading used by the letters ed to cover the range of letters on the budget, suggests a possible fight-back. The risk now is that, faced with no prospect of a double dissolution, the Coalition will make substantial modifications to existing proposals and abandon possible further spending reductions. That would be bad politically and economically.
